
Dalia Dokšaitė
was born in 1955 in Vilnius. In 1980 she graduated Vilnius Academy of
Art and worked as a scenographer in Lithuanian theatres and cinema
studio.
She has participated in exhibitions since 1976. In
1992 was organized her first oil paintings and scenography exhibition. Since than she has organized 22 personal exhibitions in Lithuania
and abroad.
Since
1996 she has worked in the sumi-e technique. In 2005, a year committed
to mark relations between EU and Japan, she took part in exhibitions
“From Japan to the Balts” and “Japan – Lithuania”, which took place in
Lithuania, as well as in an exhibition organized by the Sumi-bi
(“Burning Charcoal”) Union in Tokyo. There she presented a collection of
30 works. The same year she arranged personal exhibitions in Kawamura
Memorial Art Museum and the NHK(Japan broadcasting
corporation) Art Gallery.
In 1998,
Dokšaitė opened “The Road of Ink” studios of sumi-e
and calligraphy in Vilnius and Kaunas. She organizes national and
international exhibitions and shows, takes part in conferences, leads
seminars on sumi-e and calligraphy, delivers lectures and takes part in
TV and radio programs. She is the author of the articles: “The
Monochromatic ZEN Painting sumi-e in Japan” // Indra, 2000; “The Place
Where Samogitians Get Their Strength, or How Are We Like the Japanese?”
// Žemaičių žemė. Also, she prepared and implemented the educational
projects: “Art of Children”. “The Language of Symbols in Lithuanian
Art”, “The Secrets of Watercolor”, “The Path of the Sun. Lithuania –
Japan”.
Since 1995 she is Lithuanian Artist Union member.
Also in 1997 she became a member of Japan Sumi-e Union Sumi-bi. Since
2006 Dalia Dokšitė is a board member of Lithuania – Japan
association in Lithuania.
